  1. The Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge 2009 came through Bermuda last week and and I tried for the not-your-usual-picture-of-a-boat shots:

On a side note - I had a few awesome pics ruined by Rain-X (aquatica glass megadome), which did not work as people say. Picked some up from the store the day i took the bottom 3 pics and it actually made the water bead and stick on the dome, destroying most of the pics. The 2nd pic i think was shot before the water shed from the top of the dome and the 3rd i PS'd out a few drops. The bottom pic, i was in the water, saw it beading up and spit all over the dome at the last minute, and it worked great. Cheers,

  2. Cool shots Chris; nothing like good ol' spit. My only problem is I can never drool out enough of it when I need it.

  3. Fantastic!!!

  4. Really love the last one!

  5. Cool. I like the 2nd one most.

  6. The last one is my favorite. Cool shoots.

  7. That last shot is sensational. Very eye catching

  8. The last one is my favourite, too.

It's too late now, of course, but shooting multiple versions and merging images in Photoshop, with a bit of cloning and patching, can make up for some of the frustrations that come with shooting in less than flat calm conditions...

  9. Second one is my favorite, a different perspective to a classic look; painting

  10. Last one is my fav. I like how it ties the underwater life in with the topside.

    Nice work

  11. Love the last one too

  12. Wow that is super cool. I like the one of the topsail schooner the best. Is that the Californian? How about the next one, is that the Blue Nose?

The purpose of the rain-x IS to make the water bead. It's just a matter of getting it to fall off the dome after that - and apparently it doesn't want to fall off...hmm...

    Very cool pix

  13. Very nice. Your last gets my vote. Rain-X has had some mixed views. I'm trying a weak solution of dish washing liquid.

  14. Inspired images, thanks for sharing! Talk about being in the right place at the right time with the right concept for capturing the images. Great stuff!

  15. Thanx everyone, glad you all like em. The last one, my personal fav, was an idea i'd had in my head for months before the tallships arrived and i'm really happy with it. The challenge was to find a shallow reef very close to the ship channel, and there was only one spot that had it; then the school of snappers came by at just the right time. Most people think its photoshopped, but you folks know better.

James, the second is the Pride of Baltimore II and the third is the Dutch ship Tecla. The first and last one is the Europa, also Dutch, and my favorite of the race - always had her sails up when others were motoring.

And here's one more, the French ship Etoile, who's captain, Patrice, dreamed of sailing the ship since he was 4 years old, i even saw the pictures he drew at 4yrs, amazing guy.
