Grip stuck on 5DII

3 posts
  1. I have a grip on my 5DII and was planing to take it down into the water early next week, and now the grip is stuck.

I tried wiggling it, twisting it without any luck, the knob wouldnt turn at all.

At this point, the knob seems to start twisting, but as it twists, i am getting the feeling that the screw is actually in same place and only the plastic is twisting.

Anyone had this problem before? any advise on getting the grip off?

Do I have to come to a resort of ripping the grip apart?

I have read reports of people having to saw grips off with the older 20 and 30D's years back.

  2. I'm not sure if its a good idea or not, but usually you can get to unstuck by putting it in the freezer for a while (makes the material contract). If I would to do this, I would make sure to put the camera in a sealed plastic bag, with most/all air sucked out of it, to reduce the chance of condensation.

  3. Thanks, I am sure camera wouldnt get damaged from the freezer since I have heard of people using cameras in extreme conditions. But I decided to go the easy route.

Being that I am in NYC and support my local retailers such as BH and Adorama. This current grip is an Adorama brand and was purchased from Adorama, so I stopped by today and went right to the manager. Lucky me, the manager was really nice and after fiddling with the camera for 10 minutes himself, he left with it to some secret room.. 15 minutes later he comes out with my camera in one hand, ready to go in the housing and in the other hand grip in pieces. Right away, he offered credit for the grip. I chose to get a replacement on the spot.

It shows you what it means supporting your local retailer or a shop you really trust in.
