Hey
I was recently in Ayr , Australia - where you dive the Yongala.
I had a few hours to kill so I took the camera down to the beach. I had a 70-300mm on my Nikon d80.
I was photographing hawks, kites etc to start with when I noticed this swarm of crabs coming out of the mud. The tide had receded and these little beauties came out to clean the left over food matter from the sand.
It was great fun photographing them. Every time I stood up or cast a shadow, the little crabs would bolt away from me on mass. It was like watching herds of wilderbeast trying to cross rivers.

I lay flat down on the sand with the 70-300mm on. I was shooting at 300mm. I couldnt get any closer to use the 60mm as the crabs ran away.

Here you can see one of the crabs cleaning some sand.

which created little balls like this

after an hour or so I decieded it was worth the hike back to the car to setup my underwater rig. I put my 10-17mm on and hoped to get some over/unders of the crabs running. However, by the time I got back there was not a crab to be seen! The tide was still out but they were all gone. I managed to find a handful in a small pool of water. Knowing that they would run if I stood up or came to close, I crouched low and crept up to the crabs like a ninja.
When I was a metre or two away, I made a quick dash and put the camera in the water and prayed my tokina 10-17mm would get a good focus and after surprisingly few attempts I managed a nice over/under of this little guy!

Hope you enjoyed them!
Cheers
Cal
