Oz to Japan with 40kgs of u/w camera gear

  1. Hi all

My u/w camera equipment in 2 pelican cases is about 40kgs.

I am going to Japan to do some filming.

What should I do? Pay the ridiculous excess baggage charges and hope that all the equipment makes it onto the plane as well. Or pay a courier company 10 days before I leave and ship it over and hope it will be waiting there for me when I arrive?

I have spoken to an excess baggage company here and they could only quote me for going to Oz to Japan and couldnt give me any details about how I was going to get it back to Oz 3 weeks later, they seemed to be a one way service out of Oz only. Dosnt make sense to me.

What do people do normally in this case? This is the first time I have had to travel outside Oz with my video equipment, if anyone has some words of wisdom I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks

    Seeesharky

  2. The options depend on which port you are flying out off.

Your could fly Jetstar Starclass which would give you 30Kg checked and 10Kg carry on ( not including your camera ) plus the option to pre-purchase an extra 20Kgs baggage allowance.

You can pre-purchase this in both directions and save any pain.

    Good luck
