Wide angle in The Red Sea

  1. Just came back from a week in Egypt. Was on a liveaboard - Seawolf Soul - for a week of "wrecks and stuff". Had an excellent time diving among others the Thistlegorm, Rosalie Moller, Giannis D and Chrisoula / Marcus. Also did a 30 min. snorkel with 5 friendly dolphins.

Before I left I sold my Nikon D200 setup, so for this trip I borrowed my friends Nikon D60 in a Sea & Sea RDX housing with dual YS110Alpha strobes and TTL Converter. I decided to only use my 12-24mm for the whole trip as I wanted to improve on the wideangle work. I found it quite diffecult with a new camera and all, but I have put together a Flickr gallery with the results. Hope you like them.

  2. Looks like you had a great time with the borrowed rig. They must be a really great friend. I'd ask you to add some of your best to the Wetpixel Flickr group so all the folks there can enjoy them. :D

    Thanks for sharing!

  3. Reallyt love the wreck shots!

  4. I really like it. I like the twin dolphins the most.

  5. Excellent! Who needs a D200...

... I've never seen all that on a single trip - you must have eyes in the back of your head!

I actually like the shoals hiding the wreckage, they are that little bit different...

  7. Thanks for the nice comments about the pics. I am still sorting out the +1000 pictures from the trip. And yes I to think that we saw quite a lot for a weeks liveaboard - sometimes you are just lucky.

As for the camera I am very pleased with the quality of the pictures produced with the D60. I can't tell any differens from my former D200, but the handling is not as fast with the D60 as with the D200 because of the lack of dedicated buttons and the extra whell on the D200.

But considering the low price for the polycarbonate housing versus the metal one then it is a fantastic setup.

Now I am just waiting for the D300S. Hoping for the same camerabody as the D300 bacause then the UV housings are allready here.

    Cheers

    Kenneth
