Red One vs Canon 5D Mark 2 (a not so serious test)

  1. Rick Darge, emmy award winner and bored cinematographer, put together a couple of shots for a comparison between his beloved Red Uno vs his toy camera, the Canon 5D Mark II.

Aliasing and resolution is the Red's strong card, but the little guy does ok for a $2700 camera.

In this second video, Rick forgot to put it in HD but the results are pretty clear even then.

Interesting to see, the 5D Mark II does do a nice job, though the fast pans did show a big different, but maybe that software you mentioned the other day will fix that :D

  3. How good of a still picture can the RED take? :D

  4. The internet is so good in how it can so quickly show the world just how good products are.

One does not have to rely on mag reviews and stuff any more.

Used in the right way, the 5D is pretty cool.

  5. At the SMPTE ( Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers ) Conference and Exhibition last week the 5Dmk11 had the same buzz that RED had the previous year.

Panavision had a unit set up with one of their lenses , other units were set up on rails with follow focus attachments and barn doors and even Steadicam had one set up on rig for demos.

It's shaping up for an exciting time in imaging as the digital medium and it's various technologies merge.
