YS-120's for Off Camera Strobes

3 posts
  1. Hi,

I'm interested in doing some wide angle shooting with off camera strobes. I'm considering buying a pair of cheap YS-120 Duo as I've noticed they can be used as a "slave".

Can any confirm whether or not this is possible? I want to use the setup in conjunction with some hard wired DS-125s on camera.

Manual shooting is assumed, with no TTL.

    Kin Regards,

  2. They can be used in slave mode- they only have full, 1/2 and 1/4 settings if I recall correctly (Im answering from work and not looking in mycamera bag at the moment) so they wont have much of a fine-tuning ability but they recharge rapidly and offer a good number of flashes on a new set of batteries and have ample power for pics. I used to use a pair of them when I was shooting film, now I still have one and use a Sea and Sea YS-250 as my primary and the 120 as a secondary strobe.

  3. Eric,

Thanks for the reply. Do you have any idea on the type of range that the slave will trigger from?

Also, I'm a bit concerned that the sensors need to be facing a certain way and won't trigger when required.

    Thanks, damien
