D80 housing & lens

  1. Hi gang,

anyone using a Nikon D80 and housing????

any advice on buying a housing for this camera?, .. I'd like to find something used but good like

an Aquaitica with a dome for over/unders.

What's the current good lens for the over/under shots?

I used to use a Sigma 14mm on my F4 housing, .. but haven't shot in a few years.

    Cheers,

    Curtis

  2. you may have a look at the Wetpixel classifieds for an Aquatica D80 housing, there should be a few in there. You could also start a "want to buy" used D80 thread in there.

For over/under shots with the D80 as a crop sensor camera, you will need either the Nikon 10.5 fisheye or the Tokina 10-17 fisheye zoom. Your other option would be a wide lens like the 10-22 for no fisheye effect.

    Best

  3. I use Sea&Sea Dx-D80 with NX Fisheye Dome Port. Come in all black to match my other black equipments :)

Sea&sea discontinued the production of the housing so you need to check the availability from the shop. For a good Over/Under shot you probably want as wide angle lense as you can afford. Have a look at Nikon 10.5mm as sugeested above. It's my favourite lense. It's a very sharp lense and give a very vivid colour result comparing to another lense when shooting at the same condition.

  4. thanks for the replys, ..

    issue with the 10.5 is it's a fisheye, ..

my old set up ( haven't shot in 5 years ) was the old Sigma 14mm on a film camera in an Aquatica housing, ..

and I LOVED the over / unders with no distortion of the fish eye.

Look in the "swimming" section of my web site for examples. http://www.cboggs.com

Does this mean to really do what I'm after I need to go to a full frame camera???? and if so, what lens then???

I'm going to be shooting people in the over / unders, .. fairly close to full frame and don't want distorted people with

big heads and tiny feet etc, .

Is there a lens combo to do that with the D80???????

    Thanks,

    Curtis

  5. the Sigma 10-22 is a wide lens that is not fisheye. That would be your best option i would say
