Video of the Week

  1. Hi to everyone,

I find that quite awkward to have photo of the week in this forum. Can anyone let me know why there isn't any video of the week competition? I understand is more complicating to post it but we can just set the limit of less than 30 seconds or less or more. Is more fascinating to watch marine life movements, behaviors. :) let's think about it. is not only sharing the footage but the way how videographer edit that little short clips. It doesn't have to be a weekly thing, it can be a monthly thing, right?

  2. Hi Sophia,

Underwater videos have always been given short shrift in competitions. They will have a million awards for every possible type of photo but only one or two for videos. Never the less, feel free to upload your videos to Vimeo or YouTube or where ever and post your URL to it so everyone can see it and provide feedback if they like. A 30 sec video is pretty darn short and might be useful to show off a great clip or behavior on video, but could you imagine festivals showing 30 sec shorts?

    Steve

  3. I quiet like the idea of running a "best shot" or "best short sequence", max length 30 secs, lets face it, it takes a while to edit a longer piece and sometimes we just get a great sequence of 3 or 4 7 sec clips which look great...

It would be a pretty reasonably sized file too.

  4. It is extremely difficult to host video, and most video hosting sites prevent usage in that way (as infrastructure, I mean). I suppose we could host a Flickr competition (video only) and post the winners here every week, but someone would have to volunteer to spec out and run the contest. :)

  5. I'm sure if you asked Babelgum, they'd say yes to new content. :)

As for running the contest... no thanks! :)

  6. sorry....

That's the thing. It would be more complicated for users actually to enroll on other sites, which less convenient than being here in the domain site. I don't mind to start. I can understand is quite difficult. Hm... Maybe there are some other ways.

Babelgum is slow as hell though to the extent that I can never be bothered to watch anything.

Yeah I reckon managing and hosting the whole thing would be a pretty big headache, at present people post videos when they have completed them and people generally give constructive critisism and praise which I think is great. Do we really have enough content that people are delivery to actually make a specific video of the month... probably not.

That's strange Jonny. I've been watching stuff like End Of The Line and on it and it's been plenty fast for me. Watched an Arctic Monkeys gig on it too the other day and no stutters.

An "unedited clip of the month" might be a good idea, but that's just cuz I'm lazy. How about calling it "Rush of the month"? And no, I haven't got time to run it myself either.

  11. Howdy.

Yeh problem is posting a pic is dead easy compared to editing a video up etc.

Having said that, I got my little HDVundersea site still going.

Its not on a dedicated sever but ticks along.

Kind of forgot about it actually. :)

    Hey Wags,

I actually get a fair amount of traffic from your site actually... so it must have a few viewers.

Sorry quick edit... if it was to happen though I reckon clip or quick sequence of the month would be better. Limited to say 30 secs....

  13. Yeh a 30 second clip kind of thing would work of some cool thing happening.

Viewers would not get bored and nothing really to edit up.

I'll have to get in there and have a look at the traffic stats.

Have you got clips on there or something?
