ULCS and Bluefin Pro

  1. Hi,

I use a L&M Bluefin Pro with Sunray 2000 LED and locline arms. I think about replacing the loclines with ULCS. What do you think about that? Which armslength would you prefer?

I like very much the quick release of the loclines. Is there something similar with ULCS? I saw only the ball adaptor that you have to screw in. No quick connect?

    Thanks a lot,

    Sascha

  2. I've used both at one time or another with several different cams. Personally, I prefer the locline arms for a few reasons. I am now also using the Sunray 2000s and before the the Sunray HIDS, UK100s, and a bunch of others I can't remember the names of. While the ULCS arms are stronger and will stay put in a good current, anytime I had to change their position in a shot took a long time and sometimes the shot was lost. The locline arms bend quickly and easily to any position I need them to be in and gets me to the shot quickly. Only in the ultra strong current of Tahiti have they been moved out of position and so I remain a strong advocate for them. Plus they're cheaper and lighter to pack.

  3. I have changed to the ULCS 8 inch double bouyancy arms and they worked perfectly. I have the big 110 lens and lights, so it's all fairly heavy underwater.

These work out about the same length as the Locline arms. Still not enough to make it just slightly negative (as I would prefer it) but it's on the right track. I am looking at either PVC pipe sealed at each end, or foam to add a bit more bouyancy for next time out.

But the ULCS arms are very stable, lock perfectly, and they allow easy movement without altering the clamps at all. I just set it to the right tension at the start of the dive, and just move to the right position as needed.

If you can fit them in your case for travel, you could go to the 10 inch version, these give quite a bit more buoyancy and aren't too long.

I probably wouldn't go longer than that, no need really.

  4. I have the bluefin pro with sunray 2000's. Currently using ULCS 8" buoyancy and regular 5". Works well but I would like it a bit lighter (have fathom wp80). Going to try the 8" double buoyancy and think that will help. I like the ULCS arms. They are easy to adjust and whoever is on the boat can grab the arms to lift it which you can't do with the plastic arms.

If I were to change out the loclines I would make them as near the same length that the factory supplied. The loclines work great and they are easy to take off and put back on. As far as I know ULCS does not offer a similar product.

    Good Luck
