Lionfish and Soft Corals

  1. This picture was taken at the wreck of the Sufa missile boat.

  2. What a colorful photo! Very nice.

What are the elongated-looking fish in the background?

  3. Beautiful colors!

I would be interested to see what the pic looks like cropped with the lion in the upper right corner.

    Cheers,

    John

  4. What are the elongated-looking fish in the background?

    Pipefish Jim.

  5. The croped image

  6. Pipefish!

  7. Ilanbt,

I really like the cropped image.

    John

  8. I agree. The cropped image is great! It makes me feel like the lionfish is showing me something on the reef, or exploring the reef with me.

  9. Whilst the crop is nice I agree with the first choice, the composition is very good.

The crop just shows a lionfish near some soft coral, which is ok, but the uncropped version tells a story about this particular predator and it's local environment (A wreck not a reef ).

It explains to a diving or non diving viewer lots, and becomes an educational tool, if you like.

Were the lionfish stalking something in the coral, well that's another story.

From a processing point of view I feel the image is over sharpened and oversaturated, but does not effect my general feelings on a great capture, which includes those schooling pipefish.

  10. to Cybergoldfish the colors in the picture are true simply the picture lost a lot in the resizing no matter what I tried to do!

and I also preffer the first version.

  11. I thought that might be the case because of the auras, how are you resizing, and maybe try reducing saturation before hand may help? You can adjust colour in fine tune by going into Image, adjust - selective colors, then tweek away.

  12. Ummmm.... :)

I can't see how the 2nd picture can be the cropped one if it shows more?

Then both would be crops from a 3rd original right?

In any case, I like the 2nd one the best :)

  13. Sorry fuzz the first picture is the original resized of course and the second one is cropped from the original and then resized!2
