The Canon 100mm/2.8 USM macro lens seems to be out of stock everywhere. Does anyone know if Canon are revving this lens, or is it just in high demand?

There is some on Ebay.
I don't know if Canon will refill the stock, but with the new annonced stabilizing technology, which apply very well for macro lenses, we can maybe hope a new macro lenses "soon"...

Eric - I flooded mine in mid-May, about a week before I left for Indonesia. At the time, Canon was offering an instant rebate on lots of stuff - including the 100 mm lens. Possibly coincidentally (??), I was unable to find one online (well - not anywhere that I was OK with giving a credit card #). As a last-ditch effort, I called around locally and found one at a Best Buy about 15 miles from my house...for an outrageous price. At least they honored the rebate...
I increased the amount I had the lens insured for after this incident.

Hooper here in LA says they have one in stock. Usually they are quite good about knowing if it is "really" there.

just got an email from adorama, who has it on sale. (the only thing I ever bought there was this lens and hood, so not much use to me)

There is talk of there being a new 100mm macro IS-H lens coming out.
The H in IS-H means it is a hybrid type vibration reduction which is supposed to take account of angular vibration (ie lens dropping) as well as the latteral (body and lens shaking together). It is supposed to be better vibration reduction for macro.
There is also talk of it may become an L series but this is much more of a rumour that the lens it self which seems almost confirmed.
Believe announcments / press release due for either 19 or 26th August.
