Canon 450d - discounted housing w/ No WB button - Advice

6 posts
  1. Hello!

I have seen a discounted housing for my recently purchased Canon 450d - BUT it does not have the Print/White Balance button.

The reason it is a bit cheaper is it has been discontinued. However the replacement one DOES have this button.

Now i shoot in RAW so do i really need this button - or do i wait until i can afford the newer one with said button?

I hope that makes some kind of sense! Advice gratefully received,

    Thanks

    Kei

  2. I would always suggest you buy the best you can afford. As you progress with the 450D you will be wanting to use the White balance functions, So yes it may save you some money now, but as you go along you will be regretting not just spending the money in the first place. And then you have the issue of reselling a housing that the next person will be asking the same question.

Keep saving and go for the newer one.

  3. Who is selling the housing? If a shop it might worth while to contact the mfg. Sometimes they are willing to add a button for you. As such, the cost of the housing plus added button might still be less than the new housing.

  4. Can someone please explain when a photographer would ever need the WB button on a still camera shooting RAW? I've never needed the function on my 40D. What am I missing?

  5. Same with Steve.

I have 450D in SnS housing but I never (don't need to) use WB button.

    And yes, I shoot RAW.

  6. hi all,

Thanks for your replies - have been very useful. I have decided to get the housing, as mentioned i found out i can get the button added if i do decide i need it. As i shoot RAW & will be using a strobe hopefully i won't. :):)

    thanks again
