  1. When one looks at the body of work of Howard Schatz, it's clear that there's very little he has not done, and done better than anyone else. This is particularly the case when working with dancers.

So this image is unashamedly inspired by one of his, as I try to do more black and white images in the pool.

Imiitation and inspiration are the sincerest form of flattery, and with the results you get, well as always nice work and like the B&W.

Seeing the pool shots that you, Cal, James and others do, makes me want to try it, the work is interesting and inspiring to me.

  3. Superb sir. Fascinating that there is no obvious way to know that it's shot in the water. Truly remarkable image!

  4. You hit a hole in one with that image.........

    What a stunning shot.

    Great models. So pefectly posed.

What sort of light were you using?

Re- Schatz - Thats the real problem with underwater studio photography. Schatz has done it all!!!

    Congrats on the stunning image,

  5. Very nice indeed, Jeff.

    Thanks Steve,

Actually in the original image there is some reflection, but in this case I thought it distracted from the shot. I have a few more similar ones with better reflections, but this was the best pose. This stuff is more frustrating than golf, with so many variables, I'm happy with one or two keepers from a shoot.

    Cal,

Main light was reflector directly above, softbox top right, fill strobe lower camera left.

  7. Stunning photo Loftus!

  8. Nice shot Jeff. But my just ColorMunkied monitor sees it as a little dark. Was that intended or did I screw up my calibration again?

It probably is slightly dark though I like it as I think it makes it a little more dramatic. In retrospect I would have liked it if my left fill strobe were turned up a touch. Increasing exposure in post (unless I do it selectively) burns out her left arm. I'll try another version. This type of image is a challenge to light and expose correctly; she is pale, he is dark, so I struggled a bit to light him well without blowing out her fair skin.

  10. OMG what a fantastic shot. The lighting is incredible.

  11. I think a soft highlight on her hair would be nice. I think the flowing hair is the best part about uw shots.

Replaced with a slightly lighter version

  13. One more from this shoot; color this time.

  14. I like this color photo better than the black and white Jeff :-) I think this one is also really emotive - great job.

  15. I reeeeeally like the first one! . I find the coloured one a little plastic/artificial looking. Maybe the skin is too soft.
