Help... slight dent on my Sea & Sea housing near where Oring slots in!

  1. I am so pissed off and concerned...

Upon my arrival back in Azerbaijan, Customs insisted on holding me back and trying to make me pay some duties on my housing which was obviously used and old!. In the process, when I opened the housing to show that it was indeed empty inside, I accidentally knocked the two halves of the aluminum housing together! Now there is a slight dent on each side of the housing near the groove where the O-ring sits! It did not actually dent the groove itself and although I feel the dent, I feel no burrs..... can anyone tell me how serious the damage is? Obviously, I will do a test dive to check the housing integrity first.... however, is this considered serious damage? I have attached two photos for gurus here on this board to see and advise me...

    Thanks!

  2. From your pics it looks like the o-ring groove (1st pic) and the o-ring contact surface on the other half of the the housing (2nd) are ok. And no burrs - thats good. However I would make sure that no aluminum material near or part of the dents extends above the main flat surfaces of the housing. Anything that could prevent the 2 halves from mating with full contact all around. During your test dive without camera work all the controls several times just to make sure all in good. From the pics I don't see anything serious. Unfortunately stuff happens.

Thanks for that! .... yes, the surfaces that mate are flat... Thank goodness... Now I just have to cross my fingers during the test dive... wish me luck!

PS. I dont suppose such issues can be repaired if the damage was worse? Aluminum is such a soft material.... it was a good lesson to learn!

  4. I agree, they look OK.

I have had worse than that on an NX-100Pro housing...

on the flat part there was a scratch all the way from the outside to the inside.

It was a 1mm wide scratch , not a sharp deep one, made from one circular metal rod, like a button shaft.

Never flooded, but I was always worried.
