I want to use the 5D mk2 for still and video. I have purchased magic filters, but now I don't know whether to use it or not. Can you auto white balance with strobes for stills, and again for video without strobes? Do I just not bother using it at all and just white balance with editing software? I'm so confused...

Take a look here, Jeremy used Magic Filters and strobes on a G9 and how he set color temps.

And Mike Veitch wrote something on shooting with them

Not sure AWB with Magic Filters on dSLR (http://www.magic-filters.com/magicindex.html), but I am sure others can add more to that.
There were a few threads on white balance, just tried to pull them up and will look again, from both the video and still side. Lot's of good disucssions and techniques (and some different opinions) on when, where and how to WB.
When I shoot video I usually will WB every few feet/when setting up new shot or I leave it on daylight/outdoor. Have not yet tried though on the 5D Mark II. On stills, I shoot RAW and usually do not worry about WB'ing things (strobes w/o filters), and I am okay with the results.

Here's an image taken in full sunlight with a magic filter on the lens, WB done in post as the camera was still set for underwater use.

that looks great!! i guess it's just going to be a lot of experimenting and seeing what happens. by the way, i said auto white balance in my initial post, but i meant custom WB.
