D700 with Nikon 18-35mm f3.5-4.5D AF-S

  1. Not seen this mentioned anywhere, other than the more expensive, and heavier 17-35mm, which no doubt is among the best WA together with 14-24mm.

    If you have experience with this lens, appreciate some advise and guidance on this lens for UW. Which diopter you use, etc.

    I am currently using D700 on Aquatica. I bought this lens for two reasons -

    1) after reading the review by Thom Hogan and Ken Rockwell - good enough for my need;

    2) the weight, or the lack of it compared to other WAs;

    Thanks.

  2. the longer close focus distance results in mushy corners, hence why everyone goes with the 17-35.

    Thanks Lou for your response. I waited a while, seems this lens is really not for uw.

  4. I used it with film and liked it really well.

    It was not my first choice, as I love fisheye, but on some well dived spots (specially wrecks) I would do a second dive with it to shoot some of the place/wreck features a bit closer.

    Since I only shoot DX underwater I don't have it now, I plan to buy the 10-24mm.

    For topside I use the 14-24mm, but if I move to FX underwater it is one of the options I will think about.

    It needs a big dome though.
