The Canon VIXIA HF S11 Dual Flash Memory camcorder takes our solid reputation for optical excellence, advanced image processing and technological innovation in high definition camcorders and brings it to the next level. The VIXIA HF S11 offers a large 64GB of internal memory, recording up to 24 hours, 30 minutes (LP mode), approximately 6 hours recording at the highest quality (MXP mode), and compatibility with removable SDHC cards. And the video and photos you record will be as brilliant as they can be - with the Canon Exclusive 8.59 Megapixel CMOS Image Sensor and our advanced image processor, DIGIC DV III.

What's more, the VIXIA HF S11 allows you to record at up to 24Mbps, the highest bit rate in AVCHD format, for the highest quality image. The VIXIA HF S11 is packed with Canon Exclusive features - such as the Genuine Canon 10x HD Video Lens, sophisticated Genuine Canon Face Detection, Dynamic SuperRange Optical Image Stabilization as well as Advanced Video Snapshot Mode and a host of new control and creative options. All of which make it possible for you to Shoot, Capture, See and Be HD.

This one shouldn't be an issue for the housing manufacturers. From the specs, it will more than likely fit in any housing designed for the HF S10 or HF S100.

  3. It's just an update with bigger memory and a few other little bits. It's in the same body. I think the housing peeps will be very happy with that.

It's such a minor update I don't even think it's worth mentioning on the front page.

From my perspective it's a significant update because of the enhanced image stabilization system. Canon used to license OIS to Sony. Maybe Sony's super enhanced image stabilization on the XR500v (which is very impressive) is actually Canon's OIS technology. At any rate it appears that Canon is using the same or similar technology in this new camera. This is a good thing for a small camera that will go in a small housing, especially for people who will be shooting in surge or near the surface. I was thinking about getting the new Sony but may now get this Canon instead.

  5. Pat, after shooting with the HF S10 in the Bluefin C housing while sitting on the surface bobbing around to film whale sharks, I definitely agree that this new Image stabilization can be a HUGE improvement. When I was at NAB in April, I saw the XR 500 and 520 on a moving system simulating a bicycle and the footage was absolutely still....it was amazing!! Cant wait to test the S11
