Ikelite housing for Canon G9 with Ikelite wide angle lens
15 posts
I just used my Canon G9 in a Ikelite housing with a Ikelite wide angle lens. The picture quality is great but I am getting vignetting in the images - more on the left hand side of the image than on the right hand side. The camera lens was at the widest setting.
How can I get rid of the vignetting? Does the camera lens need to be extended slightly so that it is not at the widest angle? If so, is there a way to limit how far the lens will zoom out so that it doesn't bump into the port and shut down the camera?
Thanks for your help.
Ike has a short and standard port for the G9 housing. Which one are you using? The 'standard' comes with the housing. The short one has to be ordered as an extra, to the best of my knowledge.
I am using the short port that goes with the wide angle lens.

Even with the short port you will have to zoom to about 9mm (from 7mm) to get past the vignetting.
Thanks Jeremy.
Is there any way to make a custom setting so that the lens only zooms out to 9mm? Or is it just trial and error to zoom out without going too far and hitting the port?
Thanks Jeremy.

Yes ... either the C1 and C2 settings on the shooting dial can save your zoom position, but you have to find that place manually and then save it.
What is required is a very small amount of zoom ... almost as little as is possible. I just checked the EXIF data on my images and it is exactly 9mm.

Thank you for your help Jeremy. I will have a look at the custom settings.
For comparison purposes, when fitted to the G9, Ike and short port, the INON UWL-100 M67 type II does not need to be zoomed.

Mine did ... yours doesn't?

Hi Jeremy, neither mine nor CJ's requires a zoom. We are both using the dome unit too.

So does mine !! Albeit i use a G7 and i use the dome unit too....
Diggy
I have the epoque wide angle lens and it requires a fraction of zoom, thanks for the custom settings tip Jeremy, will look into that, usually I just clone and heal the corners out if the shots any good, as sometimes if I zoom it I may miss something out of the shot
Hello,
reading the postings is quite confusing and controdictory regarding zooming and blurring.
If you are using the the UWL100 and the dome, do you need to zoom in?
Is there some bluring at the edges?
I am also considering in buying the ikelite housing for G9.
It would be great to see some examples of pictures taken with this setup.
Thank you
Stefan
Check out my website for pics (and no doubt everone elses on this thread)...link below!
I will be selling my Ikelite housing soon & short port & Ikelite DS125 flash..watch this space! My flash battery is in with Ikelite for a recall as we speak, so wont have it for another couple of weeks
unfortunately the quality of the online pix are just not good enough to judge. Take a look at following page http://www.root.pp.se/root/Ikelite_Port_G9.html. It describes the blurring at the edges. Do you also experience that?
