I hope some one can help me. I was looking at buying some rechargeable Ni-mh batteries for the strobe but I have herd that you cant use them in sealed compartments as they may explode. What batteries do you guys use?

It's fine to use them, just be careful not to get any salt water drips from your hands on them. The YS-27 has a gas release cover.
I highly recommend using the new type of Nimh batteries that hold their charge longer before use, aka "enloops" style. They give off less heat.

thanks for the info are they from sanyo?

Yes, they are Sanyo Eneloop batteries. I use them in my YS-110s and my focus light; they're great batteries!

You can get the Sanyo Eneloop's at most battery vendors.
I know that Battery World has them in stock.

Check the mah rating on Enloops. Number of flashes may also be a consideration. I like to shoot a full day (300-400 pics) without changing strobe batteries. Some shots at full power, some less. Maha PowerEx 2700's have been working well for me. I always charge batteries 1-2 days before using them, with several sets in the queue, so being able to hold charge for long period is not an issue.
