I have a HC7 Handycam in a Gates housing, when new it would manually white balance with natural light on a white slate every few meters down to about 20m without any problem. Now it has a problem white balancing below around 6m, all of the settings are at default on the camera. Can anyone help explain this or has anyone encountered the same problem?
THX
Does it still WB at all in extreme conditions? Try flipping the filter on land and WB. If it doesn't then you know it's the camera.
Have you changed any settings or added any lenses?

Thanks Drew,
I'll give it a go. As far as I know all the setings are as they were and no new lenses have been added. We have been in the Solomon islands so 'extreme conditions' are rare. THX

Hi Drew,
We gave your suggestion a go, it white balances fine on the surfarce with and without the red filter, it seems to be just after about 6-8m it stops locking the white balance in, it will white balance every meter down to that depth.
All the settings are on auto and nothing seems different to when it was working AOK. Most settings revert to default after 12 hours of the camera being turned off anyway. Which settings do you think might affect the white balance functions? Any other ideas?
I have read here once before that this camera is only capable of WB locking in upt to a certain Kelvin temperature. Thus, when you get to a certain depth the colors are too cool for the cam to be able to do it. More expensive cams I hear are more capable in the range of color temp that the WB will work at.
