Sea & Sea D-TTL strobe?

11 posts
  1. I heard rumors of a D-TTL strobe from Sea & Sea while on the boat last week in Guadalupe. Did I miss something while I was gone? What's going on?

  2. After thinking about this some more, I'll bet they were just confused, and thought the new YS-90 AUTO could do D-TTL.

  3. Some people also think that because the strobe has a "DX" in it's name that it can do D-TTL

Very smart product labelling on Sea and Sea's part though I guess.... :-)

    Cheers

    James

  4. Would their smart labeling be like YS90 series being 60 watt seconds, and YS120 being 85 watt seconds..........?

  5. Ike,

Hate to break the bad news to you, but that Ford Galaxie 500 my Dad bought back in the 60's only had 450 galaxies under the hood.

    :D

    Edit:

Actually it was my Father who bought the car. :D I drive a Ford truck with a 150 foibles. At least they got that number right! :)

They are strobes for digital cameras so the already calculated the focal length multiplier (1.6) :)

I used to think that the DS125 had an UW guide number of 125. Not sure if that was in meters or feet though. :)

  8. The DS125 is so named because it is a 110 watt-second strobe. :)

  9. I vote that Craig had the best response. I forgot the original request for 125 was not obtained by the engineering types, making us guilty of that which I accused others............

  10. No critisism was intended and I hope none was taken. :) I think the DS125 is a nice strobe although I haven't used one.

  11. The rumors about Sea & Sea doing a D-TTL strobe for the D100 have been floating around for almost a year. With Seacam and Subal having released housings for the SB80-DX, and Aquatica about to release one, I doubt that there would be that much demand for a dedicated strobe now. Although a housed land flash unit goes way back in underwater photography and would appear at first to be an anachronism, I've used a housed SB80-DX and it works quite well in D-TTL as well as manual.
