Best Caribbean Diving in November?

8 posts
  1. I'm curious if anyone can recommend some locations for the end of November in the Caribbean? Big animals would be the main focus if possible, although I realize it's the wrong season. Looking for the best all around diving and best weather spots. Sperm whales in Dominica arriving around then or too early? Any thoughts?

    Thanks

  2. Ok - no responses. More specific then - and a bit of a change now - Curious if I can get any firsthand information (no great info on the web) on diving off Andros Island and Flamingo Cay in the Bahamas? Or, if there is some other islands near there I should look instead.

    Thank you guys -

  3. Two interesting choices that I have never been diving too.

Is there a reason you picked islands on the inside, rather than out on the Atlantic.

I know diving in Grand Cayman is great that time of year but starting to get cooler so I would think it is coldish in the Bahamas by then.

How about Turks? chance of larger animals and further south so a bit warmer? DR was a good idea too .. but I don't know what its like that time of year specifically, I think in general the season for the Caribbean is summer .. thats when a lot of everything kicks off marine life wise.

  4. Thanks Giles - good point on water temp that time of year. This isn't my choice. Something a client is deciding - we are giving recommendations. Now that it has moved to the Bahamas, I'm not sure where to go. Lived in Bimini and done the Jasa trip - but have no other experience through there. Part of the decision is based on sport-fishing (that I'm not included in) - and the diving is secondary basically. So, looking for great sport-fishing and diving.

I'm feeling the Exumas (Conception Island) or maybe San Salvador may be nicer - anyone have any ideas - best chances for sharks (without chumming)?

Really appreciate you getting back Giles!

  5. I think for all round everything Exumas may be the better option .. but I have heard good things about San Salvador .. plus it is out there so for fishing is bound to be good.

  6. Agreed - any one else with a thought on this?

  7. Turks & Caicos has some great diving here in the winter.

Lots of sharks and eagle rays in West Caicos and French Cay.

San Sal has really good bone fish fishing; don't know the best season. The island was hit with a major hurricane this year destroying the Riding Rock Inn. I was there in the late '90's. The golf club/resort went bust, so the reefs in the south were recovering some from the fertilizer run off. Small little cay - stony. I would not choose to live there.
