Whytecliff Park, West Vancouver

  1. Hi Folks,

Whytecliff Park in West Vancouver is arguably the most accessible and therefore the most popular dive site in the lower mainland and it's within 20 minutes of downtown Vancouver... depending on bridge traffic. It's used extensively for classes as well as tech dives as it has a shallow, easy sloping bay and deep water is only a short swim from the beach. Over the last few weeks my wife and I have been diving it regularly and taking the camera along despite the fact that summer, and openwater classes, are hard on the vis! At first I was taking the 100/2.8 macro thinking that in less than great vis, for photography at least, it would be the only option. However, more recently I've wanted a wider perspective and so I decided to work with the close focusing abilities of the Sigma 15/2.8 fish. What I've learned is that close is often not close enough and that a CFWA approach can be as rewarding, maybe even more so, than macro in times of poor vis.
