ever hand feed a mako shark before?

  1. Very cool Alex.... however I wouldn't be so happy if her big brother turned up. Mako's can be a little feisty over here. I love the shot with the guy with the equinox housing shitting his pants!

LOL yeah. Seriously though if operators are going to hand feed sharks then they should at least do it properly. There were far too many lilly white hands flapping around for my liking - all very attractive for a Mako and it is situations like that where they will give a nip. An accident waiting to happen.

The shark itself looked like it had maybe some prop marks on its side and although it was a small shark she definitely looked pregnant to me. I had no idea that Mako's were sexually mature at that size and reference texts suggest that they reach 1.5m long by 2 years or so, but are not sexually mature until 4-6 years old. She looked no more than 1.5m in the video, but it could be deceptive.

  3. Or she was just full of fish..... could have been another shark bite...or even pregnant with a mating bite mark although probably to fresh

  4. not sure if she was actually pregnant or if that was just her belly bulging from eating so much fish. she sure didn't look so fat when she first showed up, but i hope she is pregnant. we certainly could use more makos about.

as for the hand-feeding, it's not something that i would do. i'm happy just to see the shark. and i like my fingers, all 10 of them. the mako almost got one of his fingers at one point. i think they're a whole lot faster than the blues they typically feed. was actually thinking about editing out the feeding parts as I know it's such a contentious issue.
