Underwater Photography Galleries By Camera.

  1. Can you please tell me of any underwater photo galleries with categories for different cameras?

I searched online and found one, but I am sure there are others.

I realize many posts have photos with camera info, just looking for a larger collection for comparison.

    Thanks!

  2. I don't know about any places like that, but you could always search flickr.

You could use groups to narrow it down like this:

    http://www.flickr.com/search/groups/?m=poo...mp;q=Nikon+D70s

Not as easy as a dedicated website, but it works.

I find that looking at images only show what a camera is ultimately capable of though, not necessarily if it will meet your personal needs.

For example comparing nice strobe lit macros of a D3 and D70s , especially if they are internet previews, you probably wouldn't find much difference.

  3. Thanks for the help! The WetPixel Group at Flickr is exactly the type of thing I am looking for.

Your comment about comparing the D3 and D70s is why more images are helpful for me.

Any professional photog doing comparison photos can manipulate it however they like and also get the best out of the camera.

By getting a large range of examples from many different users, especially recreational users, it makes it is easier to get a better idea of it's strengths and weaknesses.

Everybody has a different eye and application preference, and the only way to find what I am looking for is through examples.

I think I am finally narrowing it down with all of the helpful information online.

  4. Cool. I know what you mean. I ended up choosing my G10 after seeing a gallery of macro shots right here on wetpixel hehe :)

    Happy camera hunting ;)

  5. I'm not sure that it is the most instructive test, because an experienced photographer with a basic compact with all the accessories would certainly take much better photos than new UW photographer with a top of the range SLR and a kit lens.

That said I have camera specific galleries for the Nikon D3, D700 and D2X towards the bottom of this page on my website:

    http://www.amustard.com/?page=kit&subp...hoto&size=s

I'd say that the D2X gallery looks the most impressive - but that is because the gallery represents many more dives with the camera, than the other two. Another variable to consider.

  6. what kinds of cameras are you trying to compare? differences b/w DSLR's or b/w P&S's, or DSLR vs P&S? I will second alex's point that you'll find more variability in photographer skill than the camera itself.

its certainly true that a camera is just a tool and the skill to wield makes all the difference. sure a dslr with a decent optic & port etc has a superior ability to a P&S. but other factors will completely eclipse the choice of DSLR: lighting & exposure skill, optics (lens + port), water clarity, #strobes etc.

I am a firm believer that the lens you put on your camera is far more important than the camera itself. A crummy lens on a D3x is inferior to a good lens on a D70. There is fantastic info in these forums on the best lenses for UW use.

so by all means compare cameras, just be aware of the more significant factors. cheers,
