Which Airline Should I Fly To The Philippines?

I'm flying from LA to Manila on Nov 27. The best connection is Philippine Air with a 45 minute stopover, but no plane change, in Hawaii. The price is $1163. I can fly for $640 on China Air with a 3-hour layover-plane-change in Taipei. Or $825 on Cathay Pacific with a 2 1/2 hour layover-plane-change in Hong Kong.

My question is: What is your experience with Philippine Air, and if it is a well-respected carrier, is it worth $523 to not change planes?
