Night Time Exposure Pics

  1. Not underwater but as Perth is so cold and crap, I jumped on me bike and rode 800km to Meekatharra.

Meekatharra has a population of just 1000 with 13 police officers and a full blown hospital just to look after the mob there. :D

As the sky is so super clear out there I tried some night pics with my old D70.

  2. Nice shots mate.

Particularly like the old mine shots, HDR at a guess though I like the way that they are not 'full on' HDR (if they are that is).

Nice to see that the D70 can still come up with the goods though the sky in a couple is suffering a bit.

What sort of exposure times ? looking at the stars I figure less than a couple of minutes.

Not so keen to hear about how cold and nasty Perth is - heck - I am flying out there at the end of Oct for a vacation.

  3. Wags -

just curious to see what your camera settings were to capture those mine shots...

  4. Hi

    Shutter open for 30 seconds.

    ISO 800

    Exposure 3.5

Small light to expose me for a couple seconds ^_^

Plan to ride back out there on the next full moon to do some timelapse videos with the camera in the pit.

I would like to get a better camera but the D70 is good for now to practise on and wear out.

Perth is warming up now so Oct should be fine.

Here is what 1310 single images of stars stitched together looks like.

  5. Sweet shots man! Love the 2nd and 3rd ones.

You should definitely get the IR remote. That way you can shoot longer than 30 secs in bulb mode but at ISO 200 so you can get cleaner pictures. Last I remember it was lower than 13 USD so it's definitely worth it.

    This ones using the remote

Or you could just do this. I took this one before I got the remote, just held down the shutter with my finger ^_^

The lower ISO really helps make the sky clearer.
