  1. Hi all

my local above water club has a yearly portfolio comp - I am putting in my u/w shots - mainly Bali and Perth - both WA and macro ( 60mm & 101-7mm) Debi Henshaw has given me a few pointers etc - just wondering what others have got to add -I've read the BSoUP web blog about their ideas - looking at something like this -

any suggestions in moving the images around ?? or other ideas

    thanks guys

  2. The only thing for me on this is the Manta shot .. the rest are all pretty much black backgrounds .. that photo breaks the feel of that. I would either change that to a dark background .. or change two others to blue backgrounds.

If going with the dark back grounds .. at the minute the anemone fish would be better off IMO under the ribbon eel in the middle as they both have a partial background.

I don't really have any experience with this .. I am just talking from what my eye see's so it may be completely different feel for anyone else.

Other than that .. they are all great shots .. congrats and good luck!

  3. Land lubbers usually like pretty colors, so nice nemo shots, the ribbon eel etc. Sharks have a certain sex appeal up top too. Just my two cents.

  4. The middle images are too "underwater"-ish: I strongly suspect that they will not appeal to a non-diving audience. No-one understands the problems of lighting, focus and just getting close, so don't ask them to try with images that would impress other diving photographers. Drama seems to be the only thing that works, so the manta is good, but perhaps on the top row (the sun shines from above!)?

  5. cool thanks all for the help both here & FB -see how I go

  6. Hi Bax,

You might also want to work with the blue water color around the manta. It looks a little too cyan on my screen. If you could get it to match the darker blues in the ribbon eel you might be able to tie the whole portfolio together. Just a thought, have fun with it. Some very nice images. :D

    Cheers,

    Steve
