I'm planning a trip over a few months to Indonesia. I'm going to take lots of diving and photography gear. My question is about sending gear home as freight, but avoiding customs/import fees.
One possibility is that I do a load of underwater photography, send the heavy dive gear, housing & strobes home, then carry on travelling doing topside photography without the extra weight and security considerations.
Does anyone know if there some way to avoid the (re)import duties, perhaps by having it logged on the way out of the UK, or something similar?
if you have receipts of the fact you already bought it and paid VAT .. you should be good right ?
If there is a question about it .. just claim back the VAT on UK exit !!!
Anytime I have done similar things all I have needed is the receipts as evidence.
I once had to get a shop to reprint the receipt for me too, that was not easy!
There is Returned Good Relief which is available for any goods on which VAT and duty has already been paid (and not recovered) provided that the goods have not changed hands outside the EU. Receipts will be sufficent evidence.

Thanks Guys - it seems it is all about the receipts.... now where did I put those....
