Nikonos flash cable extension help?

7 posts
  1. :( I am looking for either the connectors or made up cable for extending an Inon 220 to Subal ND30 flash cable. I am look to put a heinrichs weikamp RSU on the end of a 5m strobe cable so e.g the strobe can put down a hole but the sensor is visible.

This for use in Cave Diving situations.

Not very well explained but hopefully you get the idea?

    would appreciate some help

  2. I was very disappointed with the RSU, which is very sensitive to ambient light. OK if you are using inside a totally dark cave or wreck, but not in open water.

  3. I am looking to use it in total blackness but it's a lot of money if it's not much better than a Subtronic slave sensor?

  4. Ryan Canon mentioned to me that one well know American, and not usually financially restricted, underwater photographer decided against the RSU based on price.

The RSU was used for triggering the strobes here:

Although had to be modified from the state it is sold (built a shade for it). Also the RSU will not work with Subtronics - at least mine - as their synch voltage is too low to power it.

This photo was taken with just the Subtronic slave sensor - although this does need to be in line of sight to work.

I believe that this picture is also my longest ever UW exposure to be published - 8 seconds. Which is pretty cool.

p.s. On a completely different matter - we need to speak about dates for Feb/March this week.

  5. looks like back to the drawing board for slave strobes in caves.

    Thanks for the feedback.

p.s. I've sent you a pm as idon't know if your in the Uk at the moment?

  6. Hi Shannon,

Alex may have mentioned it to you, but I have had good results using a Firefly cave slave, with land flash housed in a clear waterproof otter box.

I'm going to do some more testing over the winter, and mess about with some gels etc-but it is way more sensitive than the RSU

Firefly are here. I think there will be a more elegant solution than a land flash etc, but it is what I had at the time!
