Hey all,
Currently on vacation in the Bahamas and chose to dive through Bahama Divers, they seem to be a local staple here in the Bahamas.
Figured that due to there popularity here I would be more than safe diving there.
The dives were fine, but I am 100% positive that they sabotaged my U/W video camera housing.
Here is the scoop.
Both days I dove with them, the dive master and local vidographer were VERY interested in my camera housing, seemed awfully concerned about me recording, and had the sense they thought I may steal some of their clientele as they sell vids for $39.95 a pop.
First day fo diving was fine, but Inever let my housing out of my sight. Day two was a little different.
We had some very rough seas and I had my gear in the clean water bucket.
First dive went off without a hick, but I handed my gear to the dive master on board already. I didnt bother to check on, and when I hopped into the water for my second dive, the same guys grabbed it from the tub and the case was open and full of water.
Now the case I have is the Patima Smart 2, the locking system has 2 spun locks, they rotate 360 degrees then clip into place with a sliding lock. There is absolutely no way that this could come unlocked by accident. It is a two handed operation, one to hold the lock back, and the other to turn the locks.
When I handed the camera onboard, it was a good 2 - 3 mins that I was still in the water, plenty of time for he to messed with it, not to mention I was pretty ill after my dive (seasick) so I never gave it another look until it was pulled from the tub opened.
I sadly cannot prove a thing, but like I mentioned, the chances of this being an accident is HIGHLY improbable.
I now sit here with 10 days left of vacation and no vid equipment to dive with.
The camera is a 100% write off, I am just glad that I transferred the vids from day one to my laptop. The casing LCD seems toast as well, all the contacts are shot.
I can only hope this serves as a warning to others, be very careful with these guys.
