What is the best spot for Sea Lions?

The northern Channel Islands in CA are good - as is San Clemente. ALso have a look at the recent photos from San Benitos (about 300 miles South of San Diego) for some amazing photos of sea-lions in clear water and kelp forest.

IF you're looking for warm, clear water encounters. You might consider La Paz, Mexico. We've had some great interactions there.

You can see my gallery here: La Paz 2008

You'll want to go to a rookery, like the ones James and Rand mentioned.
The ones I know of are at santa barbara island & cathedral cove, anacapa island - both in the channel islands (Best vis sep-nov). Also the coronado islands, just south of san diego.
Also at Isla Espiritu Santo, La Paz - a couple hours from La Paz, Mexico. Like Rand said, clear, warm water

How about clear Green water? Hornby Island BC in March. Hundreds of big stellar sealions that love to play with divers.

La Paz is great, but only warm during certain times of the year. When I was there (June) it was freaking cold!!! 21C and I was freezing! Hahaha...
-
La Paz gets my vote. Sea lions galore. I was there last month (October) and wasn't cold at all in a 3mm. It's pretty far south.
Good chance to see whale sharks -- we didn't. But we saw hammerheads!

If you wanted to see Great Whites as well (but hopefully not on the same dive)...South Australia.
-
Best two spots Ive ever experienced... Sea Lion rookery-Santa Barbara Island, Channel Islands...then Los Islotes, La Paz, Mexico. SBI is amazing!
-
Same as last post. Also add Anacapa Island.
-
Galapagos was not to bad for them either and the water temps were fine. We just got back. Los Islotes was very good also but can have lots of people in the water.
Cheers

... freaking cold!!! 21C...

Sorry, but "freakin' cold" is 5C...
... 21C is balmy summer water, doesn't even need a drysuit...
... cool divers do cool water!
