You might try moving the strobe behind the lens. Have the front of the strobe in line with the BACK of the camera and see if that helps.

thanks for the tip i have been moving my strobe around and it does help. should i use a diffuser? will it spread the light futher i think my strobe is under powered for the lense? but I have only tried the lense in about 10-15metres in the middle of the day. should i keep the sun behind me or not?

A diffuser will spread the light more but there is slight loss of total light output due to the diffuser. If you need more angle of coverage then the diffuser would help.
Are you taking close-up shots, fish portraits, coral?
As to sun location, depends on what you are trying to accomplish....how you want the photo to look. Do you want the sun behind your back or in the photo, shooting towards it? Try some of each and see what you like.
When I was using a single strobe with a P/S, I found the strobe alignment with the camera was a critical point. You might consider aiming the strobe to light an area 0.5 to 1 meter from the lens. Then try to get within that distance from objects for your photo.
Its a lot easier with 2 strobes..but then we cannot buy everything all at once.
