Subal ND300 problem

13 posts
  1. Hello,

    i have a Nikon D300 camera in a subal housing, ND300 (type 4)

i bought two zoom rings, one for Tokina 10-17, and another for Nikkor 16-85mm VR

and both does not work well with the zoom command button in the housing

with Tokina, i did have put some piece of rubber between the ring and the lense, or the button did not reach the ring, and with the ring for 16-85mm, the button not have enough space, it's short...even if i put some rubber between the lense and the ring..

Please, can someone tell me what i should do, or give me an e-mail adress, so i can make my complain and solve this problem.

i send allready an e-mal to Subal, no anwser...

    regards

  2. Not sure about Subal design, but most zoom rings have a grove on the inside part of it where it touches the lens zoom ring, for you to use some black o-ring pieces to adjust the snugness of it. If these o-ring are not installed (missing on shipping i.e.) it is very likely to cause a problem like yours. Are they in place? Does Subal use this grove?

    Good Luck

  3. Hello again

take a look at this pictures,

this is the zoom ring inserted in the lense 16-85mm nikkor

this is the button that comands the zoom, one position is up, other ir down (make contact with the zoom ring

with Tokina 10-17, touches lightly in the zoom ring

with 16-85mm, does not touches at all

    does someone have this problem?

    regards

  4. Looks like (specially from the first pic) that you have to slide it further backward... isn't it?

  5. Well..., don't think so....

in my opinion is a defect of construction, because the ring is backward as i can, but the mechanism, does not have sufficient length to "touch" the zoom ring...

if that mechanism can not be tuned...., i don't really know

subal does not answer this question!

    best regards

  6. The reach of the focus knob in the housing can be adjusted from the inside of the housing if you loosen the screw that goes into the center of the focusing mechanism... I had to tighten it to make room for my 105 lens to fit.

    Done!

it is not inside, is outside..., but is solved!

    THANK YOU!

  8. They are really hard to put sometimes, a bit of moisture sometimes makes it easier.

Have you tried putting them from behind the lens instead of from the front of it?

    Hello,

i put the ring in a hot water, and then put in the lense....

from behind i don't think is possible because the format of the lense.

  10. Just some added information on this... Subal has started building a line of larger diameter zoom gears to accommodate the thicker and thicker designs of modern lenses. There are actually two diameters that are compatible with the ND300, ND700, ND90, and ND3 housings, and the zoom control on the housing can be adjusted to accommodate either size with an allen key. It appears that this housing was shipped to accommodate the larger gear diameter, and the gears supplied were for the smaller size. Adjusting the control is quick & easy.

    Hi,

you're right, thats why , in my first post, i said "ND300 (type 4)"...

    regards to all

  12. Actually Type 4 refers to the port mount, and not the gear diameter. The larger diameter is usually designated by a gear code of 4ZN8xx.

Mr. Canon, you are such a "know it all". Thank God for that! :-)
