Tiger Beach Trip

  1. I have booked a trip with Jim Abernathy's Scuba Adventures to Tiger Beach. Can anyone advise me on the depth at most of the sites and will I be able to get good shots without using strobes on the shallower dives? I plan to use them on one of my cameras, but I'm just wondering. Im ready and looking forward to the trip, any advice is welcome!

  2. Tiger Beach is only 15-20ft deep depending on tide & location, so lots of ambient light. Strobes are still good to use for fill when sharky gets up close (which they always do). Deeper dives usually range from 50-90ft, where you definitely want to use strobes. Visibility is typically good but color is easily lost at depth. All wide angle shots with close focus capability. The sharks may touch your dome. You can find some small critters on the reefs but that not why you're there. Jim keeps things moving at a good pace. Long dives (2+ hrs) at Tiger Beach are common. Nitrox is available - good for the deeper dive sites. No bright colors - wear black. I've been on trips in May & seen tigers, lemons, caribbean reefs, bulls & great hammerheads. Its a fantastic experience observing these magnificent creatures.

  3. Yes Tennesee, take your strobes. You never know what Jim and his crew will cook up... Night diving with Dolphins, Lemon snaps.... You need to be ready for about anything. The only time I left the strobes on the boat was to play with the dolphins Don't forget your hood and gloves, black as JC mentioned.

    Have a blast!
