  1. Hi

Has anyone here made a UW-Lamp by him/herself?

I am thinking about making my own lamp from 5 white LEDs and a 7.2 Volts accumulator in a tank.

How serious is the gas-production of a NICD-Accu while recharging? I think about flodding the batterietank with

    a epoxy-gease.

I know you should not do this with NiMH but I don't know about NiCD. Heat is the enemy of these batteries and epoxy is an insulator. I would avoid doing that. I you intend to permanently seal the battery another way then only use a slow charger.

  3. Hi Craig

Slow recharging is no problem. I can use 50-500 mA to recharge the batteries.

A feature of this construction is the huge life time of the batteries (approx. 17 hours)

So i don't have to recharge every evening :D

  4. Heat should not be an issue then. Outgassing shouldn't be either if you make sure the slow charger is sufficiently slow (1/10 C I believe). 500 mA would definitely be too fast with smaller cells like AA's but 50-100 mA would not.

The very best way to charge these batteries is to embed a thermister. Most chargers won't use it though. Span makes chargers that do. If you want to embed the battery in epoxy you may check that out.
