Buying a used fisheye

3 posts
  1. I'm about to buy a used Tokina 10-17 for canon to fit my 500D.

Any tip on how to test it when I'm buying it? If it was a rectilinear lens, I would try it on my camera body with a test target like this[1] to see that it focuses properly om some different zoom settings.

Is there anything else I should do as it is a fisheye?

  2. oskar,

That lens has very few problems. I personally have bought and sold 4-5 of that lens and never had a bad one. I just bought one and sold it the next day last week. Plus I have one now, a friend has one I've borrowed, etc.

It's an electronic device. In my opinion it either works or doesn't. So put it on your camera, shoot some pics and look them over on your LCD.

  3. with any used lens, shine a flashlight into the lens from both sides to look for mold or trapped dust particles. operate the lever on the rear to open the aperture leaves when you do this.
