Certainly one of the friendliest islands in the Caribbean, and with much to occupy underwater photographers. It's not the place to go if you're into sharks and big fish, but worth visiting for the colourful, sponge-dominated reefs. There's some decent critter/macro diving, but the best dive is a shipwreck, the Lesleen M, which offers a lot for creative photographers - fish, corals, sponges, structure.
The BodyHoliday at Le Sport, located at the north end of the island, is a good bet if you like spa culture and lots of activities. Great food also. They've got a good dive centre and a fast boat that will take you to any of the dive sites to the south in less than an hour. Ideal for fitness fanatics and non-diving partners, with a packed programme of activities. The all-inclusive deal is superb value for money.
Jalousie Plantation resort is in the middle of changing hands/identities but has an amazing location right between the two famous Piton mountains and a good house reef with snake eels, squid and lot of other little critters. It's a little more expensive than Le Sport, but the beach is nicer and the setting is incomparable
Anse Chastanet is well placed and has a good rep as a divers' resort. I've not stayed here so cannot say much more, but if I were to return to St Lucia I'd certainly want to check it out as a possible resort.
One possible downside... Some of the reefs were overgrown with algal communities during my last visit. I was in no position to determine if this was a long-term problem, as it has proven in various Caribbean islands. Time will tell.....

I was there about 6 years ago and really enjoyed it. However, my caveat is that I was an open water diver with only about 10 dives under my belt so everything seemed new and fantastic! My memories are of colourful reefs, lots of fish and other critters. We stayed at Anse Chastenet which has the marine reserve on its property and the house reef is nice (they use it for check dives and night dives). Otherwise it was all boat diving, with short rides (10-20 mins) to the sites. I think the hotel has been developed and expanded since we were there. I wouldn't go there primarily for diving but I would go there on a holiday which included diving (if you get my drift). Hope this helps.
