Hi,
Going to Eastern Fields in Jan. Anyone know if diving a rebreather would be an advantage when shooting video? Most of the pics I've seen have been wide angle reef shots. Are there pelagics and other skittish creatures there?
Thanks,
Steve

Yes, per Eric Cheng who just did it. Fish that are close don't jump away when you exhale.
He's heading home tomorrow and will have some nice footage to show from the 5DmkII
Not that many pelagics. Eric will have more to say on the advantages, if any and how much, when he gets back.
Yes it does have advantages, especially on the cleaning stations where you can sit on them and catch great behavior. The critters that get run away definitely stick around a little longer with a rebreather. However, if you use powerful lights, then it won't really matter because a lot of them would just avoid the light. I shot mostly filtered natural light video and it was ok for shallower depths but past 25m, unless the viz was awesome (and it can get up to 30m when it's great), it was a struggle.
Of course if you have a 5DM2/1DM4 and will only be posting to web, then shoot at 3200ISO is ok. Enjoy the trip. But I would wait for the latest info from the WPers who were there recently. My info is years old.
