Help to save Lembeh Street

  1. Just got an E-Mail of the resort I stayed during my last holiday in Lembeh. Check this out:

It's an outrageous political scandal: the Toka Tindung gold mine rejected for it's potential devastating effects on nature and people in North Sulawesi was finally ratified by the Indonesian central government to begin production in 2010. It is situated in the hills next to the world famous Tangkoko jungle reserve and overlooking world's critter and macro fotografer's haven Lembeh Strait - one of the premium dive areas listed to become a world heritage. Private interests and greed for money put one of the world's most unique endemic nature regions on the verge of destruction.

you can join an email protest directed to the Indonesian President following this link:

More information in English can be found here:

  2. Filled. However let's get very real here. If the mine has tens of millions of dollars potential, nothing short of a revolt in Bitung is going to stop it. This is something that has to come from Bitung and the locals.
