Inon Z240/D2000 query!

7 posts
  1. Hi,

Can anybody help me with this?

I have an Inon D2000 strobe, which I bought to use with a compact setup. However I've now moved on to a dSLR outfit. The D2000 only trips fibre optically so I can't use it with my new housing.

What I'd like to know is, if I bought a Z240 for the Nikon outfit. Would I be able use the D2000 as a second strobe, slaved to the Z240? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Is anybody out there using this system? If so how do you find it?

    Thanks

    Andy

  2. Hi Andy,

Have you not thought of ebaying the D2000 then getting a pair of Z240's? You should get a good price for it as theres not much on there?

I got a pair of Z240's for £820 from Yuzo in Japan incl delivery! if that helps

    Cheers

Yes Andy it probably would work but I'm not sure it would fire in a dependable way especially for WA. I'd probably go the route suggested here. The Delta between them would be small and you'd be happier with two Z240s.

  4. Wouldn't the D2000 just slow the Z240 down also, making the Z240 behave like the D2000?

  5. No, you could slave the D2000 just like you would any slave strobe. You might have to run it on manual to achieve the appropriate sync but it should work just fine. Many people have used the syncing capability to backlight their subjects with an off-camera strobe. It works fine but the concern would be if you wanted to angle the strobes outward you might lose some dependability on firing. Also and open ended fiber optic connection will sometimes fire with the flicker of the sun at shallow depths and will fire when photogs near you fire their strobes. Your suggestion above is the best way to go.

    Hi Woody,

Yeah I thought this might be the way to go. I did get the D2000 from Yuzzo so no problem there. Just thought it would be a nice easy quick fix.

Thanks for this, its not worth pursuing if your not sure the strobe will fire, or it fires randomly through an external source. Looks like Yuzzo's gonna get a call in the new year.

    Thanks guys,

    Have a great Christmas.
