Problem with Inon Z240

  1. Now my other strobe is also acting up:( The focus light is working, the red light at the back is shining, but the flash does not fire.

When i take a photo the focus light shuts down for a second, the red light at the back dims and the green one signs, but no flash.

Anybody have a clue what can be wrong or suggestions?

Tested with different fibre optic and different set of batteries.

  2. Looks like your main bulbs are dead. Inon repair kits basically replace the innards for about 70-80% of the price of a new one. Try firing with a sync cord.

  3. Drew, should one be able to see a change in the bulds appearance...like blown?

Since i have had set backs on both strobes within a short period of one another, i am trying to figure out possible causes.

Could placing the strobes inside a cooler, with hotter than luke warm water, over night as my rinse procedure possibly cause these negative results?

  4. Hi Geo,

just wondered if you have checked for any signs of flood/corrosion inside the electric sync connection?

I also soak in warm water but haven't noticed any issues after doing so regularly for the past few months.

    Cheers,

    Jim.

  5. It's toast. My rebuild was $250 or so. They basically give you a new strobe except for the case.

  6. Thanks for the good news Jack:))

If you have a multimeter, you can check for continuity: Here's how

  8. Thanks Bob

  9. I had similar symptoms on my z240 once. The guy who fixed it said there was a wire in there which had had a meltdown- it was a thin piece and it had kind of blown up. He just replaced it with a thicker piece and it's been fine ever since (over a year). So it wasn't too expensive other than the labour cost.

It happened to a Z220 that I used to use: as I understand it either overheating, flooding the battery compartment or a physical shock can break this fragile connection. There is power to the focus light and monitor LEDs, but not to the strobe circuit: it can be repaired if you know what you are doing, or you will lose the strobe for months whilst Inon fix it...
