I'm looking for a housing for my new Nikon D90, and I am interested in the Aquatica AD-90, but I have so many questions about the housing.
I need unbiased answers, so that's why I'm asking in this forum.
What's this optional "Aqua View Finder"? Is the normal view of the camera's viewfinder thru the housing obstructed or perhaps just difficult to use? Rectified by attaching the "Aqua View Finder"
Is it common as in the case of the AD-90, that the housing comes with no Lens Port? Not even a Flat Port?
What's the difference between the double and single Bulkheads (strobe connection)?
I'd love to hear from anyone who has experience with the AD-90
Thanks,Zaven
I have that housing and its a very nice piece of work. Aquatica has done a great job with listening to their users and adding features that have been requested over the years including a very nice new machining process and the size is very compact.
1. Aqua View finder- its and add on that magnifies the view. Most companies offer this sort of product now. It gives a much larger view through the lens than just the regular viewfinder. I don't use it myself as my eyes are still 100% I don't need it but it would be a nice addition for sure as it makes composing easier.
2. Ports are a separate charge with all housing manufacturers i believe
3. Bulkhead- if you use two synch cords for your strobes then you will need a double bulkhead. If you use a Y cable for two strobes then you will only need a single bulkhead. Also, for Ikelite strobes you just need a single bulkead and a Y synch cord in order to get TTL..
I have the aquatica too, also with their viewfinder, its a massive improvement on your vision, a lot easier to compose a shot

Thanks for clearing up those questions.

I have this housing for my D90 and love it. I went from an Ikelite to an Aquatica housing and was concerned about several things - all of which have not come true. Excellent housing, easy to use, ligth weight as compared to my previous housing. Ports, extensions, all of that stuff is purchased separately - with all manufacturers that I am aware of.
If you can get your hands on one and play with it - try to. Or talk with someone who knows about the housing. I talked with Fred at Backscatter about my needs when I was going through my decision making process. He was able to help with ports, extensions, etc. after I had made my choice of the AD90 housing. I know that ReefPhoto is also good at answering questions from folks as well - based on the posts here.

Thanks for your help DiverPam, Ive just about made up my mind and I think I'll go with the AD-90. I need to do more research about a good strobe system to go with it though. The aussie dollar is strong at the moment, so I can't wait too long before purchasing.

I am looking at the Aquatica as well. My first thought was the Ikelite, but I think I am leaning towards the Aquatica.

I ended up purchasing the Nauticam Housing with a couple of Inon Z240's. The Nauticam is a nice piece of work, it also gave me the option of either fibre optics or sync cord.
