Sea&Sea to Inon optical cable

  1. I have a Sea&Sea MDX-d700 housing which includes fiber optic bulkheads. S&S makes a fiber optic cord to attach their strobes, but I have a pair of Inon Z-240s i want to connect to the housing optically. Ideally, I want to find a cable with the S&S connection at one end and the standard Inon cap fitting at the other end. The S&S cord uses a right-angle connection which is necessary to attach them to the housing in the tight space behind their dome port. If anyone has experience/knowledge with this configuration, I would love to hear from you. Thanks in advance.

  2. Hi, I have/had the same housing and strobes. All you need is the Nano adapter kit by Fantasea:

Attach those adapters to the ends of a regular Inon optical cable, and it will work with the Sea&Sea housing.

We've tested these against the Inon cables, and they do cut a significant amount of light, which can decrease i-ttl performance, or at a minimum work your camera's internal flash harder than it has to. I used to use them, but after looking at that data I stopped.

I'd recommend the real thing, which is a multicore fiber with strands thinner than a human hair:

  4. Ooo, I like those bushing plugs better! Plus they are cheap. :D

This setup works quite well with the S&S RDX housing and the Inon strobes, TTL performs perfectly and never a "no-flash" yet.
