CP5000 With Dual Strobes

  1. Hi All,

My first post to the forums.

I have a Nikon CP5000 in an IKE housing with a Substrobe 100 as primary and SS 50 as a secondary strobe. The strobes are connected to the housing via an IKE dual TTL cord. My problem is that the SS50 is firing at full power all the time, despite both strobes being set to TTL. When I switch off the SS50 I get nicely exposed shots from the SS100 (with the speedlight control dialled down to -2 on the camera). When I switch on the SS50 I get hideous blown out images with deep shadow created by the light from the SS50.

Anyone got any ideas what is happening here?

    Thanks for any help.

    Dave

  2. Dave, welcome to wetpixel!

That's a new one for me........I'd verify the type of cord you have with Ikelite to make sure everything is compatable........if it's older, it may not work with the newer DS series strobes

  3. Some possibilities to davepoole problem: You may have a 50s model that is a slave and manual only strobe, not TTL. Older strobes are not always compatible with the new digital cameras. Following URL advises of sync circuit update requirement:

  4. Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions. The SS50 is definitely a TTL strobe and the cord is definitely a dual TTL sync cord. Strangely, the problem seems to have solved itself following turning the camera off then on again. I guess it's just a glitch.

    Thanks again for the replies.

    Regards

    Dave

  5. Hmm...you sure your camera isn't made by Microsoft? :-)

    Cheers

    James

  6. Camera that locks up after taking a picture then resets after turning everything off is indicative on need for new sync circuit update. Your problem was TTL exposure, so this may not be applicable. May we forward future customer problems to you for solving? You did great on this one............
