Was anyone on board MSY Seahorse in Raja Ampat over the New Year? Evidently there was an incident but Cici was very defensive about it when I asked her what happened.

It would be more prudent to email T'xus directly than to have this sort of allusions out in public no?

Public is what I do.

I totally understand the need to get sources for story verification. That's laudable journalistic integrity and due diligence, something that is unfortunately missing in much of mainstream media. I suppose my concerns are to the way you phrased your query. When you allude that an operation was "defensive" when asked about an "incident" in a public forum, some may see it as an veiled insinuation of wrong doing or at least subterfuge. I think it's a little unfair since many of these ops don't monitor these boards, which is why I replied to this post.
From what I know, the 'incident' has nothing to do with the MSY Seahorse of Indocruises. I think you're barking up the wrong seahorse.

I was on the MSY Seahorse in Raja Ampat up through December 29th. Quality operation!
I am aware that the Grand Komodo did run into a reef around this time, but there was no outstanding incident on-board the MSY Seahorse. On New Years itself, much of the dive staff had already left for Bali for several days vacation...

Thanks for the hard info. I finally got a reply from Txus too but no answer from Max who evidently organised the search. There seems to be a veil of silence over what happened, which is not helpful, but Txus tells me that it did NOT include MSY Seahorse but another operation with the same name. That is the trouble with a name that is used by so many operations. The important thing is that we learn from events. It is in regard to missing divers. Maybe the divers had no surface signaling devices.
I had a good trip on MSY Seahorse during first two weeks of January although we we went to few of the sites I knew, presumably because they were worried about currents, although it was neaps tides. I never needed to hook in during a dive.

Mystery solved. It was NOT MSY Seahorse.
Max Ammer of Kri Island and Sorido Bay Resort was contacted by a government official and asked to organise a search for some divers that had been missing for 24 hours over the New Year period. He was told they were from Seahorse. Later after a fruitless search the searchers were told back at Sorido Bay that the divers had been found. That's good news. However Max was confused that the Seahorse was not waiting around to thank them for their search efforts.
What Max did not know was that there is a very recently opened resort called the Seahorse Paradise Resort in Batanta and the divers were from there. He had been given the wrong information from the government official.
Sorry MSY Seahorse. That's why I wanted to find a real witness.
I recommend every diver to carry a lamp and an extending surface flag when diving anywhere there are big currents. I do and have called the flag into play many times over the years.

John perhaps a change of title of the thread to reflect the correct operator? To be fair to Txus and the MSY Seahorse which is not involved? After all mistaken identity whilst common, can be damaging, especially with those with short attention spans who don't read entire threads. Then again, I know of a John B one who famously lost an appendage to his raging wife.
