Rigs too heavy?

  1. Any clever ideas to add bouyancy to my negative rig? don't want to change out strobe arms........thinking about inflatable bladder under the tray arms?

  2. Some wavelength as me.. I have thought about it some thinking even the boyant arms would not be enough - need something that I would want bouyancy not at the bottom of the camera but somewhere on the arms naturally. I thought about some of the plastic key holders which are bouyant - sold at marine boat stores but not the kind made out of sqweshy floatation because they would compress underwater at depth and loss bouyancy. Hard plastic - ones tied to each arm - silly looking perhaps - still thinking - let me know what you might think of...

  3. I've heard of people using everything from plastic soda bottles to the hard foam floats you find on fishing nets. I would lean toward the latter as they don't compress as much as a soda bottle would . . .

  4. I tend to agree and they can be cut/fomed/sized to the need - attach with ties or velcro - even painted to match:

  5. Another option (although slightly expensive) is to get hollow arms from Ultralight Control Systems (www.ulcs.com). I don't have any experience with them, but they make great stuff.

  6. I've used thin wall PVC tubes.

Cement end caps on both sides.

Adjust the length to meet your bouyancy.

Use a swimming pool to calculate the

    size.

Your camera should drop down slowly in

fresh water, it will be neutral in saltwater.

Mount them on your strobe unit with Velro

    or hose clamps.

Foam and plastic containers will collapse

    under pressure.

  7. Yesterday was my first dive with the Titan/E20 with two strobes and on the way down to the Keys I picked up Speedo Aqua Bar bells - after ripping them apart and 5 minutes later I had carved to attain a tad negative and was happy at 10 and 113 feet. To me they seem like the perfect solution. They got compressed very little, absorbed no water - I am going to split in half and put one on each side however.
