Old Nikon lenses

  1. I have sorted out from my old stock a Nikon F-401x with two Nikon lenses:

    • Nikon AF 50mm f/1.8
    • Nikon AF 80-200mm f/4.5-5.6 D

Can these lenses be used on actual Nikon DSLRs such as the D90, D300 or D700 ???

Thank you very much for your advice !!!

  2. Yup they can

  3. The D90, D300 and D700 should be good with either of those lenses, although there can be minor issues with Nikon Speedlight external flashes and some old lenses (the camera can't pass distance information from some AF lenses to Speedlights in TTL mode, but you can use the Speedlight's internal sensor in Auto mode as a workaround, or use manual flash). I'm not sure if that's an issue with these particular camera/lens combinations.

If you go back another generation of lenses, the D90 will start to have issues, while the D300 and D700 are still fine. On AI, AI-S and E lenses, the D90 won't use its internal light meter, so you have to shoot in M mode instead of A. The D300 and D700 let you select the aperture while the camera selects shutter speed when using older non-CPU lenses.
