The Magnificient Mantas of Mexico

  1. I just got back from the Revillagigedos aboard the Nautilus Explorer, and although it will take some time to go through my photos I thought I would share a couple of my favorite Manta pics from the trip. The Mantas are just extraordinarily beautiful and elegant. I tried to capture the essence of their fluid motion, but it is hard to do with still photography. As usual, click on the image for more details.

  6. The Revillagigedos archipelago is a magical place. This was my second trip, but won't be my last. One of the things I really enjoyed about the dives was that we had humpback whale song reverberating throughout the water on almost every dive. It was like diving with a soundtrack. We saw plenty of them topside, but one of these trips I will see them underwater. Of course it is mostly all pelagic diving. We had a couple people on board that were used to Florida and Carribean coral reefs and they were a little taken aback. It was a little odd at Roca Partida to see them intently staring at the wall looking for reef fish and macro life, when the rest of us were staring into the blue looking for big animals. To each their own.

  7. I miss mantas....
